media update, now on wednesdays (1 week only!)

A very flux week, with much running around for the last of the garden centres lol. I think we went out every day aside from Canada Day, and Kelly had a five day weekend, so we did not do a lot.

TV/movies: we'd planned to watch Kpop Demon Hunters but didn't even get that done, lol. Also realised I never wrote my review of Tale of the Nine-Tailed, lol. Unsure if I want to dig that all up out of discord (my memory is like, what drama now? that was so long ago (two weeks))

Games: finished Game Dev Tycoon, it was a lot of fun but I didn't think it had a lot of replaybility (for me, idc about my score, i already won), so I deleted it immediately and sure enough, the day after I was like 🤔 and was glad I had deleted :P sims are so bad for both my physical and mental health, but they are so GOOOOD.

Inched a bit further into What Remains of Edith Finch & continue to enjoy it.

Books: the House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune - a sweet story, sweetly weird and sweetly optimistic. I liked it a lot and immediately ordered the sequel.

spoiler I figured immediately that Arthur was probably magical, but I also figured that Linus definitely was a repressed case, and was wrong about that! Dang. Coulda been fun.

Writing and other wips: No writing! Not even a glimmer of hope on the horizon, lol. I have gathered supplies to embroider, inspired by the [community profile] sunshine_revival challenge.

Problem-Solving

New study backs up 'sleeping on it,' suggesting naps promote creative problem-solving

All groups improved in the dot-sorting test after their nap, but 85.7% of those who achieved the first deeper sleep phase — called N2 sleep — had the breakthrough.

Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your hard things a little easier?

Whales

Killer whales attempt to feed people in first-ever sightings: 'Represents altruism'

Among their own whale circles, they have long shared their prey with one another, but in a new study, recorded over the course of the last two decades, wild orcas were spotted trying to share their food with human beings.

These wild whales, on 34 occasions, across four oceans, were documented approaching humans on their own, dropping a fresh kill in front of the people, and waiting for a response.

The polite thing to do is accept it, and if you have anything suitable, swap something back. Cetaceans love the hell out of human item drops. A sturdy beach toy should go over well.  Treat this as a first-contact situation; be cautious but aware that you are dealing with a sophont of another species.

Today's Smoothie

Today we made a smoothie with:

1 cup orange juice
1 cup Brown Cow vanilla yogurt
1 banana
1/2 cup Great Value Mixed Fruit (pineapple, sliced strawberries, mango, peaches)
1/2 cup ice

The result is slightly thick, a pale peach color, with a nice orange-tropical flavor -- almost reminds me of a dreamsicle.  It'd be good with some coconut; there's another tropical mix with that but it's not what we have at the moment.

M-T-W

Luckily, shutdown this year has us staying on our shifts. (Though I admit to being slightly sad to not be able to grab takeout every day after work...)

Unfortunately it is still stupidly hot despite being dark and the humidity is actually brutal.

Got an amusing postcard from [personal profile] misbegotten, thank you! And zines from [personal profile] used_songs, yaaaay! (I flipped through them quickly, will look properly over the weekend, probably.)

And received some lovely icons over in [community profile] femgiftboxes from [personal profile] cosmic_whore_writes and [personal profile] linky. <3 I wrote three things, which I will try to get archived to my own spaces this weekend for easier reading. ^_^;

[community profile] sunshine_revival has started. The first prompt includes goals/plans, and since I do those monthly anyway, I'll get that posted sooner than later. (but not til after work, at least)

A few minutes ago, the first drop of 'Gundam Summer Fest' went live on the Premium Bandai site. I had a kinda chonky list of things I wanted and low expectations because "things sell out instantly" and yeaaah, lol. I actually managed nine of sixteen things on my list and then added in a couple other normal pre-orders with the same shipping month, so I'm pretty happy! There'll be at least one other drop next month? and then whatever after the pop-up tour is over, and of course I'm actually going to try to get to the last pop-up tour date so there might be some of these kits there?

I owe a post of kit photos and whatnot. Hopefully over the weekend.

Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month.

These are some of my characters with disabilities. Series with disabled main characters include Clay of Life, the Draft Dawgs thread in Arts and Crafts America, Daughters of the Apocalypse, Frankenstein's Family, Monster House, The Moon Door, P.I.E., and Walking the Beat. Polychrome Heroics has a bunch, but they are scattered around various threads; some are ordinary disabilities while others relate to superpowers. You can ask for more disabled characters in any relevant prompt call. Today's Poetry Fishbowl theme is "Weaponized Incompetence and Malicious Compliance."
