I'm back!

Okay so technically I've been back for a couple of days but I've been busy. Sorry, DW! The trip to Texas ended up being really fun and too short and I'm kinda disappointed with myself for dreading it as much as I did. OH WELL. I spent way too much money (damn you, makeup addiction!) and watched Ghostbusters (not nearly as good as I'd hoped, however I am absolutely in love with Holtzmann) and The Boss (which I ended up liking, even though I know it was terrible, I just really like Melissa McCarthy okay). I also might have bought three volumes of that six volume Sherlock manga because while the covers were shoujo-y, I had hopes Sherlock would look like a lizard on the inside. AND HE KINDA DID.

Speaking of which, I've been reading a lot of Sherlock fic which is odd, considering I've never watched the show. And I'm not sure I want to! I started watching one of the first episodes and my god, Sherlock is a huge asshole. I have no idea if he ever gets properly humbled but I would need some kind of humbling to happen, even if he bounces back, for me to properly enjoy it.

Dark!Sherlock fic is pretty great tho! Oftentimes it gets too dark for me but sometimes it hits my possessive, obsessive character kink juuuuust right.

I've tried to stay away from all parts of superwholock but I bet I end up watching this dumb show. /o\

IN OTHER NEWS, finally watching Rogue One on Monday! I've done well in avoiding spoilers so I'm excited to see how it is. :3

ANYWAY, I'm not doing anything special for New Years so I think I'll spend the evening playing FFXV until it's time to watch the ball drop.

ALSO I still need to make my post about the Yuri on Ice finale! But not right now, haha.

I've also yet to see Rogue One, and I'll be going soon! I wasn't thrilled with The Force Awakens (I just felt really lukewarm on the new characters), so fingers crossed I'll like this one!

There's a Sherlock manga? Huh, I might be interested. *g* Sherlock - well, I don't know if you would call it properly humbled, but he does kinda change over the show. For me it was a bit painful to watch, because it hit my embarrassment/humiliation squick. But then, I've watched the show mainly for the Sherlock and Mycroft interaction.

Yeah! Like, if the six volumes were combined, it would make a pretty small graphic novel and I think it's just over the A Study in Pink episode. The art's pretty nice though.

I have a huge problem with smug characters talking down to good characters so I've a feeling it's going to hit my humiliation squick as well. But if I can manage to watch k-dramas (which delight in humiliating humor) I think I should be able to handle Sherlock. Hopefully. |D

I actually checked my translator for the meaning of smug, just in case there's another that I wasn't aware of, because none of the ones I knew seemed to fit. Because I've heard people call Sherlock smug before, and I never (or really very seldomly) perceived him that way.

He's an asshole, yes, and depending on who he's interacting with, it's even intentional. But a lot of his behaviour is so out of this world, so unsocial or removed from other people. I don't know, I might need to rewatch. It's been a while - four years - since I last watched it. Don't know if the way I interpreted the character would change upon rewatch or not.

Huh! So it's more that he doesn't really know how to socialize with people and he doesn't really know - and maybe doesn't care - how he comes off? Because that would work for me a lot better, haha. I'm just going to have to watch the first episode (again) and see if I make it further now that I'm better prepared. XD

Yeah, that fits a bit more with my initial interpretation. It seems he does know in later episodes (or at least learned to fake/pretend), but it's not clear if he maybe learned it from John? Because we do see John constantly trying to teach him social things. He definitely doesn't care how he comes off, he is constantly baffled by people's negative reactions towards him, but he brushes them off quickly. He is aware of some things, though, and often nips them in the bud right away by being painfully direct/honest, instead of letting someone down gently.

But I have no idea if you would see him that way, too. I've seen all kinds of interpretations of him. He's a smug know-it-all, he's autistic, he's a precious innocent who doesn't know any better, and so on, you get my drift. He's certainly an interesting character to me, and often enough he's almost like an alien new to Earth. His looks kinda help with that impression, too. *g*

I should add that my opinion of the show differs a bit from the most popular ones, though. For example, there are some episodes people find boring, that I really liked. I'm also not much into John/Sherlock (although I did read them, because the dynamic was still interesting, and there were lots of talented authors), but more into Lestrade/Sherlock and Mycroft/Sherlock.

tbh reading Sherlock/John fics are the whole reason why I want to watch the show, haha. But I may end up enjoying other ships too.

Well, then go for it! *g* There are lots and lots of scenes between John and Sherlock that make shippers happy, and many interesting dynamics with other characters, too.

For what it's worth, for all the problems people have with this show, from a point of kink? It's a goldmine to me. And now you've really made me want to rewatch it. Especially as season four starts/started tonight. *g*

I don't really know what kinds of problems people have with the show (I remember vaguely about there being some problematic elements but eeeehh)! I know people grumble about it being crossed over with everything (see: superwholock, which I've also complained about tbh) but that's more a problem with fandom than the show.

Wait, I thought the show was over??? I had no idea another season was happening tonight. Huh. I guess I should binge it today then. |D

Yeah, the crossovers...well, with some fandoms they actually make sense. Or are kinda cute. I definitely liked some of the Bond/Sherlock crossovers, where Q is one of the Holmes brothers, or Bond and Watson are old war buddies.

Nope, not over. Just ridiculously long time between seasons - partly because both Cumberbatch and Freeman have been in major movies. They did that oneshot special on January 1, 2016 to tide people over, and season four was announced for January 1, 2017 - so I expect to find it online somewhere tomorrow. *g*

OH RIGHT and the queerbaiting. If it's actual queerbaiting, I'll be annoyed but if it's just, you know, shippers being pissy that their ship didn't become canon, I won't care haha.

Depends on the definition of queerbaiting, I guess? They get mistaken for a couple all the time, but Watson always says "We're not!" or "I'm not gay!" - so I never got the impression that the viewers were being baited with the possibility of them becoming canon.

Aw man, someone explicitly saying "no homo" is one of my least favorite things ever. Oh well. I'll have to save judgement for after I watch. :D

Yeah...it occurs to me now, maybe it's one of the reasons why I'm not so much into John/Sherlock. There are gay characters on the show (some we see, some are simply mentioned), but John is not gay, no really. Sherlock doesn't seem to care either way.
