The Ancient Magus' Bride - OVA, Episodes 1, 2

Holy crap.

HOLY CRAP. So I wasn't sure what to expect going in, I didn't read any kind of synopsis or summary, I was watching entirely because the poster/cover art which is of a young woman being embraced by a rather large fellow with an animal skull and horns for a head. That's all I needed!

And gosh! This is so good so far! The animation is beautiful, the magic that inhabits everything is so creative, and Chise is a great lead. She absolutely feels like a traumatized young woman (she OFFERED HERSELF UP FOR AUCTION SO SOMEONE WOULD WANT HER because her entire life she's been rejected? Like for real rejected?

Elias is so weird and inscrutable but he has his moments of being really cute and look, sure he bought her and sure he has a lot of power over her but he encourages her autonomy and calls her puppy ad GOD OKAY SIZE DIFFERENCE AND POWER IMBALANCES ARE ALL MY JAM particularly when the person who has the power seems so benign (I hope Elias doesn't end up being some kind of bad guy). Also he seems really ignorant/naive about human relationships so he like...pats her head like she actually is a puppy? And that's always played for laughs or as a comforting gesture but then he'll stroke her cheek or hold her or something and I'm like aaaahhhh yes. ♥ ♥ ♥

Silver is precious. ANGELICA (AND HUGO!) IS WONDERFUL, WHEN SHE PUNCHED ELIAS FOR BEING A "PERVERT" I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED, PLUS SHE IS MUSCULAR AND BEAUTIFUL AND HELLO CRUSH, HELLO.

Ruth was in the OVA but hasn't showed up in the actual series yet and I caN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HIS STORY IS?! Who is he?! He's a dog sometimes and a boy other times but it seems to be whenever he wants, so not a werewolf I guess? This is set in England so maybe a Grimm? I want to look up spoilers but I also don't. ;3;



So yeah, I love this, I want more. *__*

In other news, I tried to watch Taishou Mebius Line: Chichai-san but I didn't realize each episode was only like five minutes long and frankly the fact that they turn into chibis and stay that way is enough to make me stop watching, haha. Not going to continue that one.

I love the Ancient Magus' Bride and have followed the manga for years. I haven't had a chance to check out the anime, though, but I am glad it was finally animated~

I haven't checked out the anime at all (either the new stuff or the OAV), but Magus is one of my very favorite things I'm working on, so I love seeing people talking about it. *^^*
