So I finally watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier
WOW. WOWOWOW. Why did I wait so long to watch this? I love Captain America (second favorite Avenger, at least in the MCU). Steve is so good in a way that few people are, in a way that is believable and a little heartbreaking and naive, but he's also occasionally a sassy little shit and I love him a lot. His interactions with Natasha and Sam were wonderful; they three of them are such a great team. And SAM, SAM MOTHERFUCKING WILSON, I LOVE HIM A LOT??? I love that he's a caretaker type, I love how he moves with his wings, I love how natural they are (seriously, look at how he flies and then look at how Iron Man flies), I just love him a lot. I love that he never even thought about not helping Steve. So wonderful.
AND NATASHA. I love Black Widow, I love her smart ass comments and hidden vulnerabilities. When she watched Fury "die" and she finally showed real sadness, augh man. Plus I love how she uses her smaller size to her advantage while fighting and I love that that is a noticeable thing. I also ended up really liking her hair; it looks AWFUL in stills but looks so much better in motion.
And The Winter Soldier. BUCKY. Oh man. I love that he wasn't even in the movie that much? It made him so much more menacing. I love that he's practically an unstoppable force, that if he's on the scene you know everything's going straight to hell. When Steve recognized him at first, and said his name, and he turned and said "Who the hell's Bucky?" was such a good moment. That was the first time we heard him speak and his words were "WHO IS THIS PERSON WHO IS ACTUALLY ME?" And then we see him get re-strapped to the chair. "But I knew him." NOOOOO FUCK THESE FEEEEELS.
Also, yep, I came out of it shipping Steve/Bucky hardcore and I might be checking out the Captain America kink meme for prompts I might be able to fill anonymously because I have no confidence in my own writing right now. ;;;;
So anyway, yeah, what a great movie. Damn. I wish I still had it;I stupidly sent it back to Netflix and the only copy Wal-Mart has is the ridic $26 version. BUT THEN I REMEMBERED I HAVE A $25 AMAZON GIFT CARD gimme gimme gimme.
I also watched Battle of the Five Armies!
This film suffers in the same way the other two Hobbit films suffered; there's so much unnecessary crap added in. We have thirteen dwarves to focus on, why is Legolas there (don't get me wrong, I love Legolas). We have thirteen dwarves, why are we focusing on this stupid love triangle (I hated this love triangle and tbh I would have been fine with Tauriel not existing, or maybe taking Legolas' spot as the requisite cool elf). And wow, Alfrid was not a funny character. I realize the director may have thought we needed a HIGH-LARIOUS stand in for Fili and Kili but no, we really didn't need it at all. And hey, Galadriel's scene was kinda cool (okay, mildly cool, even though I thought the special effects were silly in LotR and they were still silly in this movie) but gosh, did she have to become so weak after magically dropping the mic? I realize magic takes a toll and bluh and bluh but idk, I see people hailing that scene and I'm just like, "Welp let's move on."
Haha, but I did like this movie! Richard Armitage was wonderful and he did a great job going between stability and dragon sickness. I loved the way Thorin looked at Bilbo, even in the depth of the sickness; so fond, with soft eyes and a half-smile, before being interrupted. Watching the madness come back, watching his eyebrows sink downward and his face harden. It was so beautifully played, oh man. So wonderful.
I didn't cry, which was disappointing, but I've cried over this fic so many times that it's kind of unsurprising (warnings for Thorin/Bilbo, canonical character death). Plus, I think maybe The Walking Dead has spoiled me for character deaths tbh. However I'm really glad they kept Thorin's death speech. He comes to this important revelation too late. Everything he said is true but it's too late. Waaaah. ;;;;; Fili's death was the saddest in the movie, I think. I was too busy rolling my eyes over Kili dying for Tauriel to really care (I honestly can't tell you how irritated I am that they brought a cool female character in and promptly stuck in her the dullest triangle ever, ugh), while Thorin, well. Like I said, I think I've cried too much over Thorin already. ;;;
So yay! Also, this fills one of my resolutions of a new-to-me movie a month! Wooo! \o/

Date: 2015-01-15 05:17 am (UTC)But... that love triangle sounds like death on a spoon XD. NOTE APPRECIATED. Yerp.
Annnnnnd now I have one more person who wants me to see Winter Soldier. I am OK with this.
(Did not read the spoilers for that one. What can I say? Jackson is SUCH and overrated director. Can he just quit already. He keeps ruining things with his hamfists.)
