CW: verbal abuse

So in the past three days, my boss has said, "I don't know how to fucking help you," "I'm going to be watching you and I'm going to make sure everyone else here is watching you too," and my favorite, "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

I'm going to be putting in my two weeks notice on Monday. I have made mistakes at work, yes, but I don't deserve this. She is completely incapable of reining in her temper and then expects you to just be fine with it (one thing she's said to me was "You can't get all butthurt about things"). And I'm not. I'm deeply not. I managed to keep it together today until I was driving home and then I pulled over to have a panic attack. It was bad.

Things are going to be pretty tight around here financially. My sister is going to let me go back to work for her but she can't guarantee me hours, which. :| I'm looking into some online stuff to try and supplement that. Maybe offering art commissions? I don't know.

I'm trying not to be too down about this (and also feel too panicked about working the two week notice) but it's hard. I'm sad. :

I'm really sorry that the job didn't work out, but I'm glad that you're getting out now before things get worse. It sounds to me like your boss does not have the skill set to create a decent work environment at all. Again, sorry it didn't work out and I hope things get better soon. :( <3

It's a small business and she owns it. There's an HR department in theory but they mostly just do payroll.

In my experience, the fact that it's so egregiously unprofessional in a short time, and escalating this quickly, means there is no best case scenario for staying there. And also that the other staff and management in that place know it's a problem but either can't or won't take action. Maybe they'll mention "difficult personalities" or "we're looking for the right person" to the next round of interviewees. And the next.

I'm sorry this puts you in a bad place financially, and I hope you can get that sorted soon. Better now than when you've been worn down by this petty bully. *hugs*

Yeah, getting that angry and upset over small mistakes while we were still somewhat slow is just not a good sign at all.

Oh man. I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. A bad work environment is sucky especially with no signs of improvement. I'm super sad that what started as such a good happy thing will be ending this way. I hope those two weeks fly by for you.

I work at a small veterinary hospital that just opened up March 1st and is staffed by exactly 3 people (with a 4th showing up sporadically!). I'm the receptionist. ;; The main veterinarian is the huge asshole. :\

I do online work - generally 2 hours a week, but they often have overtime. You do need a Facebook and an Instagram account. The only thing you need to be aware of is that it is contract work so they don't take out taxes. https://connect.appen.com/qrp/public/home

This is just fucking awful. There are ways professionals talk to each other about things, even when they have issues and THIS IS NOT IT!

I remember when you got this job there was more than one owner unless I'm remembering it wrong. Is there anyway to talk to the other one about this?

If not, when you give in your two weeks notice try to be clear as to why. That way, if they step across the line again you can just walk away right then with a clear conscience.

There is more than one owner! The other owner is a fellow veterinarian and her girlfriend. ;; So while she does know that my boss is really harsh and over the line about things, it's "just the way she is."

When I gave my two week notice today I got out "I can't handle it when you get so mad" and she cut me off with "Well good luck to you! People get mad when you don't do your job." So yeah. :\
