► So I'm not...entirely sure what was going on here? I mean I got the overall gist of the plot and I understood that people were on different planets and aging differently and stuff like that, but even I could tell tat the science was probably super handwaved. On the other hand, it was a pretty movie and I fucking love the way McConaughey talks so. You know. Plus, TARS and CASE are in my top three for favorite movie robots. I mean...who designed them??? What an ungraceful design, but then when they actually need to do things, they get it done. Like when they landed on Miller's planet with the water and tidal waves and one of them (idk which, whoops) pinwheeled out to save Dr. Brand? Or when on Mann's planet and they're rushing to take off and one of them is galloping to aboard the ship? Man. I laughed for days.
But anyway, it certainly wasn't a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
► Holy crap. HOLY CRAP. What a good movie. Okay, so as soon as Hardy's Max shows up, we see he is extremely damaged. He communicates mostly in grunts and is definitely just running on survival instinct. He plays it so different from Gibson's Max and it was so good. This is definitely a man dealing with severe PTSD, living in a crapsack world. And it is so good.
Theron's Furiosa, AAAH FUCK, be still my heart. She was so good. I had concerns because so many movies falter when they put a woman in this role. Furiosa is tough and hard, but she cares so much. She's been jaded and hurt by this world but not broken by it. Plus, I really liked that when going up against people much bigger than she was, she had to fight smart and dirty rather than just being able to magically match them in hand to hand combat. She got thrown around by men twice her size and she came back with a sneak maneuver and it was so good omg.
The wives, oh no. ;3; I like that they weren't fighters; they didn't look like fighters, they weren't magically good at driving or combat or weapons, but they tried so hard anyway. They were so afraid but still put themselves in danger to help with the fight, to help with their escape. It was so nice to see that.
Nux was really pretty for a warboy. :\ I kinda went back and forth with him but I ultimately felt very sorry for him, as well as proud that he was able to see the truth. And just before he died, when he reached out to the red haired wife and she acted like she caught his soul or something, I was sad. :(
Furiosa and Max played off each other so well. She saw immediately that Max was a broken man; not a threat because he wanted to be but because that's what he'd been turned into. But she wasn't the ~beauty to save the savage beast~ because they beat the hell out of each other when they first meet and ever afterwards he used the wives as hostages against her.
The badass old lady bikers, aaaaahhhhh. *claws at face* THEY WERE SO COOL and so good and tbh each time one of them died, I was so upset.
The action was completely over the top in the best kind of way. The men playing drums! That stupid fucking guitar player! So many different gangs getting in on going after Max and Furiosa! It was just insane. And there wasn't very much downtime either; dialogue was sparse and while there absolutely was character interaction and development, for the most part it took place during a crisis.
Just. What a good movie. I loved it. I want to see it again. I want to watch it again every day for the rest of my life. It's up there with Attack the Block and Aliens. ;;;;
This movie made me really glad I'm great at driving. |D

Date: 2015-05-26 07:13 pm (UTC)Furiosa legit made me choke up a couple times. I loved very much how Max starts off as something resembling Gibson's Max and then gets this sudden nonconsensual makeover and it's like... well, this is what you get THIS time, deal with it.
Nux (who I keep wanting to write NOx, as in nitrous oxides) was pretty good. He was the character I had Worries about because obvs he's going to just be like OMG WIMMINZ every time he turns around, right? But no, he didn't do that. Just, not at all.
Of all things, I loved the wordplay. "Guzzoline" and Splendid Angharad and the contrast between those phrases. The War Boys' weird religion focusing on V8 and the use of "shiny, an' chrome" like they were saying Holiest of Holies. And the Norse overlay, from Valhalla to the Valkyrie. (Who, yes, was awesome.)
And just. The drums and that redonkulous guitar. Star leaned over and went well that is not phallic at all and then we both got the giggles every time it showed up again.
A+ 10/10 would Max again.
