Now I too, am falling into a sea of emotions right now. I really do miss Livejournal a lot and sadly, every one I've managed to make friends there all moved to Tumblr or just lurking on ONTD (which, ironically, is on LJ).
These days, I just use Dreamwidth (in which is connected to my LJ account of 5 years), as a "journal" and to read/comment the going-ons of my mutuals.
Yeah, I've lost touch with most of the people I met on LJ (even the ones who were my very best friends) but I've managed to keep a few people around. With the way fandom has become so splintered, it's so hard to keep track of people. :
Oh, LJ. I miss when you weren't a broken mess of bad decisions. It was the perfect mix of social and private, you could lock things but you could have amazing threads that never got lost because the site didn't move a mile a minute like Tumblr.

^ This.
It's one of the reasons why I love Livejournal (and here for the matter): you can look back at threads that could never be lost and for safekeeping, you could bookmark them to your memories for later. On Tumblr, you can fave them, but it means that you have to go drowning to a sea of your faves, just to find the the post you liked. I also loved the privacy on Livejournal. You can make things members only (very nifty for music posts) or share your personal stories among your mutuals that you can trust. Yeah, Tumblr has the new messaging system a la Facebook's messaging system, but Livejournal to me had balance of both social and private.
Saaaaame. Conversations didn't get splintered off due to reblogs, they were in a static spot, and privacy settings were so great. idk why fandom thought moving to a site so similar to facebook was a good idea (and this is coming from someone who uses tumblr regularly!).
Yeah. Instant gratification and all that. Sitting and typing up a post and focusing your attention on something for any amount of time is unthinkable now. XD
People don't seem to care that their personal stuff gets spread all over the place and it really stresses me out. :\
You're welcome! I think a lot of people used LJ for a mix of personal and fandom, with the personal being very diary-ish. I remember making a lot of posts about my family, haha.
While I use DW to write my posts and the cross-post function, I still think of my LJ as being my online home. It's almost like... idk LJ is the house I grew up in and DW is where I'm livin now. LJ has been my home since February 2004, and I love having my life chronicled there.
I don't like the changes, a lot of the people I met there are some of the most important people in my life, on AND offline. People I go to gigs and conventions with. They've left LJ but we still use Faebook and chat and text and in person.
I cannot bring it in myself to leave my LJ. There's nowhere like it *clings to it*
I deleted my original LJ after a certain point (maybe 2009?) but I'd had mine since 2004 as well. I sometimes regret it but I know how I am and I know going back and reading that stuff will just make me feel even more sad and nostalgic so, haha. I created a new one that's basically a mirror of my DW but I definitely consider DW my internet home.
But I understand. LJ was such an important part of my life. one day I'll get over this constant feeling of nostalgia but...it's not today. XD
Ugh, if only LJ didn't shoot itself in the foot with such bullshit like Strikethrough/Boldthrough! 'Cause I really do miss the days when LJ was the main platform for fandom. :( Any wank or drama that took place on LJ feels so quaint compared to what goes on tumblr now.
Yes! I miss when fandom was so centralized! And the wank that happened there was better contained because of mods and community control. Tumblr is such a free for all. It's frustrating.
