2018 Year in Review
Dec. 30th, 2018 10:43 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I've seen this making the rounds again and decided I should actually write something for it. :3
1. What did you do in 2018 that you'd never done before?
Visited the west coast! Saw the ocean. :3
2. Did you keep your New Year's' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t even remember what my resolutions were but I guarantee I didn’t keep them. I’ll not be making resolutions so much as I’ll be making goals for 2019.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My mom’s best friend. :(
5. What countries did you visit?
None!
6. What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018?
Inner peace. Self-respect/pride. And a better job hahaha.
7. What date from 2018 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
UHM. 5/28, the first time my ex and I said ‘I love you’ to each other. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Was definitely completing my capstone and graduating, gosh. School was a struggle and I’m so proud and so glad that it’s over.
9. What was your biggest failure?
UH WELL. Losing my temper and patience during my final semester at school. I’m still learning that it’s okay to feel my feelings but it’s not okay to weaponize them (because like, in my family and in the culture I’m in, weaponizing emotions is. Just a thing? That people do? And y’all get mad at each other and then you get over it? But that’s not true everywhere and really it’s a shitty way to be). Also just. Losing my mind, a little bit? I had such a rough time with my final semester (and not just with school, literally everything in my life was falling apart) and while I felt the way I felt, I’m so disappointed with myself for acting the way I acted. Oh well. All I can do is learn from the experience.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
UHM. Hmm. Honestly while I know I’ve bought stuff this year, I don’t. I suppose my plane ticket to Seattle?
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I don’t...understand this question? If you mean, like, whose behavior has been super awesome and I would like to celebrate them?
lassarina has been a trooper and a really excellent friend.
imperion for being a ride or die friend. And me, for having an absolutely miserable three months and still fucking graduating with a 3.5 for the semester. HIGH FIVE TO ME.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Hahahahaahahaha. Mine. And also some other people’s. And also politicians. And celebrities. Everyone was showing their asses this year. :\
14. Where did most of your money go?
FUCKIN SCHOOL. >( I didn’t take any classes the first two thirds of the year but ohoho boy, the final third broke me. I was constantly coming up short.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Seattle; graduating.
16. What song will always remind you of 2018?
Thank u, Next by Ariana Grande
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier, I think! I graduated! The world is my oyster, I am free to do and go wherever I want (uh, funds permitting). It’s such a huge weight off my shoulders, honestly, and I feel like it’s time for me to really start living. /cue inspirational music!
thinner or fatter? Fatter, haha! XD;;
richer or poorer? Poorer. ;;
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Wandering! Not waiting around for people do to things with me, just doing the things! Going to the local parks to wander the trails and spending time outdoors!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Beating myself up. Pining. Being unaccepting of reality.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Already happened but I went to my sister’s. It was okay! Everyone was in good cheer and there was very little drama.
21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
I’ve been invited to go drinking with some friends but idk if that’s really something I want to do. A relatively local board game cafe is having a New Years thing but I’ll probably will just stay home and play video games and/or draw and ruminate about the future. XD;
22. Did you fall in love in 2018?
Yep! And also experienced heartbreak and falling out of love. This old heart got a workout this year! But the heart is a muscle and and working it out keeps it strong. :3
23. How many one-night stands?
None!
24. What was your favourite TV program?
God, probably Channel Zero? Oh wait, no, Castlevania absolutely ended up being my favorite.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah, hate takes up too much energy. Am definitely disillusioned with some people but that’s a good thing. Illusions, rose colored glasses, pedestals; they’re all dumb.
26. What was the best book you read?
Sssshhhhh I don’t...did I even read anything this year? Whoops. XD; I mean I read plenty of manga and of those, probably Dreamin Sun? Maybe?
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Ballroom Thieves. Brandi Carlile. Mumford and Sons. Definitely got into that twangy folk sound this year.
28. What did you want and get?
Uh, lots of things? But graduating was probably the thing I wanted most.
29. What did you want and not get?
Self-love. ;;
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
UHM. I don’t know if I actually managed to watch any movies this year, haha. XD;
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 32! But we didn’t really do birthdays this year!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Whew. Hmm. Accepting the inevitable faster. Having a tighter rein on how I display my emotions.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?
“Does this smell okay?”
34. What kept you sane?
My therapist and meds, haha. And Good Niece. And
lassarina. And
imperion. And my fucking dramatic ass school friend whose overreactions and crying and need for someone to calm her down honestly helped me so much haha. I feel better when I can focus on helping someone else instead of focusing on my problems lmao
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don’t really care that much about celebrities tbh. Although Chris Evans and his dog are pretty adorable.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
GOD everything, this administration is an absolute fuckup and I don’t know how I have friends who still like Trump but I do and I can only assume it’s because they’re young and pay no attention to politics. ;;;
37. Who did you miss?
My dad. Good Niece, who I didn’t see at all this year because I couldn’t afford two trips.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
This is a weird question! I mean, all the new friends that I’ve met since DW has gotten more popular are super great!. But I think what really happened for me is I’ve strengthened older friendships that have kind of fallen apart/grown distant. And that’s really important.
39. Did you meet anyone you only knew online?
Yes! I met four online friends when I went to Seattle. :3
40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018:
WHEW. Holy shit, I feel like this year was rife with lessons. Being my own advocate was a big one and one I’m still working on. Recognizing that no matter how hard I try, sometimes things don’t work out. Recognizing that I can’t rely on anyone else for happiness; other people can help -- and I’ve had some major help! -- but ultimately it’s got to come from the inside. Also I learned to not immediately vilifying myself when a situation goes sour. Self, sometimes you’re not the entire problem, hahaha. And of course the thing mentioned above, feeling my feelings but not weaponizing them.
The biggest thing tho, is I’ve learned that I can’t control what other people want (and rightly so, I should never try to control what other people want) but if our wants don’t mesh or get in each other's way and there’s no compromising, welp. It’s best to just walk away.
41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I've loved and I've lost
But that's not what I see
So, look what I got
Look what you taught me
And for that, I say
Thank you, next
Honestly, Ariana Grande, bless you for this fuckin song. XD This absolutely goes for this entire year, a year of intense highs and lows, of love and loss, of adventure and stillness. It’s been a ride and I’ve learned and experienced so much.
Thank you, 2018. And next.
(goddamn I’m dramatic)
