... I know nothing about arslan Senki but awww these cuties. *__* (It help that I adore Hiromu Arakawa's character designs, I guess.) I need to watch some of that. :D

It's a complete retelling so you wouldn't have to have any background info! The set up throws a lot of characters at you but, uh, you don't really need to remember most of them. It's pretty obvious who all is important to the story. |D
