Wildlife!

We had a bit of a snake scare today. Red was alerting and staring at the seam between the trailer and back porch so of course, Mom and I went to check it out. We were peering into the darkness when Mom suddenly freaked out and backed away, saying she saw a snake. I am not afraid of snakes so much so I kept looking and the snake just kind of SLITHERED UP ABOUT FIVE INCHES FROM MY FACE??? Just casual as can be. Very unexpected! Anyway, he started slithering in the paneling of the porch and I grab his tail with some branch clippers but I don't actually want to hurt him so I let him go and he starts SLITHERING BACK AND WE END UP STARING EACH OTHER DOWN and frankly, he was a cutie. *__* I'm pretty sure he was a king snake so totally non-venomous and eats venomous snakes, but also frogs and turtles which is kind of a bummer. Anyway, he's still somewhere under the house and Mom is terrified of snakes so, haha. Oh well.

And also rescued a baby lizard from Hecky! I have no idea how the little guy managed to get in the house but Hecky had him. Fortunately he's a good cat who doesn't guard or growl over food or anything else, so it was easy enough to get the lizard from him. The poor little guy was playing dead while Hecky had him but as soon as I had him cupped in my hands he was quick to show his displeasure. I relocated him to a tree in the front yard away from all the predatory pets I have (and also away from the new snek friend).

Other than all that, today was a pretty chill day. Watched Little Evil, about half of the first season of Buzzfeed's Unsolved Supernatural, and the season finale of Fear the Walking Dead.

Omg, so many reptiles in your day! But I am all in favour of non-venomous snakes that eat dangerous snakes. Go you for leaving it safe.

King snakes are very cool. I've had them in my yard too.

Yes! It's unusual! I've seen plenty of lizards on the porches but it's not often they manage to get in the house. It wasn't even cold that day! And the snake, hmmm, I'll probably have to relocate him but I'm not going to go look for him so...I'm kinda hoping he's buckled down somewhere under the house and we won't see him until next spring (if then!).

I think it was a king snake but king snakes look so much like other snakes that I'm not entirely sure, haha, 95% sure he's non-venomous though, which is the most important thing.

i'm glad the snake was ok! and that it was a non-venomous one haha. i have never actually seen a snake in the wild, I WISH I WOULD SOMEDAY. (probably it would help if i were better physically able to like, walk around outside & shit haha)

I've had the, uh, pleasure of running up on wild snakes several times! At my old house we had a chicken coop with a tree in the middle and there were always snakes coming out to eat eggs and chicks/ducklings. We tried to clear the tree but! Snakes are wily boogers. |3
