DnD, The Passage, The Magnus Archives

So we had our first actual play session on Tuesday night and in the very first room my character Ariadoris and another character needed a Constitution save. Due entirely to my bad decision making haha. In the second room, Ariadoris and a different character pulled out their instruments (a dulcimer and a mandolin, respectively) and try to find out if the giant rats would dance. Spoilers: they did not.

(I remind you, Ariadoris isn't a bard, he's a paladin; he just has a instrument due to being a far traveler)

It was a very good play session and we had a lot of fun and I'm so glad I jumped at the chance to join this group when it was first proposed. ♥

Is anyone else watching The Passage? I love, love, love Amy, her ambivalence towards her mother and her death, her strength and her hidden vulnerability. She's easily one of the most sympathetic and likable child leads I've ever seen so far. I am also really enjoying Brad, who could have been such a stereotype (and he still is, kinda) but he's so emotional and so tender towards Amy and it's just so great. The vampire creatures are suitably spoopy and I love how, even though they're locked down, their ability to infiltrate dreams still makes them such a threat.

I've also been listening to The Magnus Archives on my drive to and from work. I'm on episode 54, I think, and I remain so invested in what's going on! What is going on?! I have some sad/bad associations with it so I gave it up for a while but shrug, I want to listen. If anyone else is following, please come chat with me about it! No spoilers tho, I want to go in completely blind. :3

Edit: Oh also, I know that the holidays are over but uuuhhh, I'm still sending out holiday cards. I'm so sorry. XD I'm so late with everything omg.

The Magnus Archives is my main fandom at the moment! And I know, right, the farther you go the more you basically need a Pepe Silvia style wall to keep up with everything, lol. I adore Jon so much, he's such a disaster.

Yes! I appreciate when Jon explicitly states where we've encountered a name before but sometimes he just says the case number, which isn't helpful at all! But I'm slowly beginning to recognize reoccurring threats.

And yesssss, Jon is such a disaster and the way he's beginning to question his colleagues is going to come back and bite him, I think (unless the archives have been infiltrated????). Just, aaahhhh. /o\

He's such a pretentious loner weirdo, especially in the first season. Can't exactly blame him for being paranoid, though, when you consider the kind of world he lives in! XD
Yeah, and the confusion is NOT helped by the fact that there's a tendency to give different characters the same name (I remember multiple Mikes and Grahams). But there's a wiki available once you're not at risk of being spoiled! Not sure how up to date it is though...

Yes! I'm hoping once I get a little further along I can sneak a peak at the wiki and have it hold my hand through understanding. XD

MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS MARTIN, ALTHOUGH I THINK MICHAEL (THE GUY WHO ASKS DOES A HAND OWN A STOMACH) IS ALSO A FAVE JUST BECAUSE HMMMM HE'S A MONSTER AND SEEMS TO BE MORE AMUSED THAN ANYTHING ELSE, AND I ALSO REALLY LOVE JON A LOT.

I HAD TO GO BACK AND SEE WHAT THE SEASON 1 FINALE WAS AND OH RIGHT THE WORMS. I'M GONNA BE HONEST IT REALLY CREEPED ME OUT AND I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON SO BAD AND OMG, IT WAS ALSO SO GROSS.

We enjoyed the first two episodes of The Passage largely because of Amy.

I think the third episode is going to make clear which direction they're going in and then I'll know whether I'm aboard for the long haul.
