I've updated my layout for winter/Christmas! I need an icon to go with it. :\a I'm really excited about the holiday season this year (not Thanksgiving; I kind of find that to be a lame holiday and not for political reasons). The aesthetics of Christmas, the excitement of gift giving/receiving, all of it. I'm really into it this year, more so than I was for Halloween, which is just so unusual.

I think what there's a certain amount of performative joy about Christmas that is just. A lot of fun. XD Also, my niece and her daughters are coming for Christmas and I am so excited. ;3;

I am crippled by nostalgia. ;3; I also really miss fandom shrines, as well as webrings and crappy geocities sites and archives devoted to particular ships. I pretty much miss everything about fandom, haha. I also really, really want to do a fandom Advent Calendar this December. I have pieces that I've not shared anywhere that I could use towards it! ;;;;

Anabeth and Sophie! They're gonna start a band (Sophie has the vocal trait while Anabeth is working on her guitar skill!). They live in a really cute one bedroom house with a ton of yard space for all the dogs I inevitably adopt. Also the neighbor is super cute and Anabeth has her eye on her. AND she met a stray cat who for some reason has the name Turtle. And was wearing a sweater? Alrighty.

Still really enjoying Gravity Falls although I have to rewatch episodes a couple of times since I usually start watching at night in bed, haha. I absolutely love Dipper and Mabel's relationship, they really feel like siblings. Grunkle Stan is hilarious and such a shameless shyster and I love it. There's a nostalgic touch to this show; it kind of feels like I'm watching an animated Goosebumps show.

In mental health news, my therapist has recommended I go on antidepressants but he's not a doctor so he can't prescribe him so now I'm waiting on a phone call back from the local clinic about establishing a relationship with a physician there. My OB no longer works there and apparently the clinic wouldn't have allowed her to prescribe me anything anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ahh man, I miss shrines too. They were fun. :D I guess there are sort of some equivalents these days (I'm thinking like, fuckyeah/themed tumblrs, for example) but it just isn't the saaaame.

Good luck getting the health stuff looked after. Hopefully you'll get something that works well for you.

Yeah, it just seems like so much of "modern" fandom seems to not have the same level of, idk, love to it? Which is completely unfair and is really just about the platforms used (well, plus there's so much more media available, particularly anime; back in the day of fansubs everyone was pretty much in the same fandoms because that was what we had!).

oh noooo that fandomsecret is making me feel all the feels. but old fan shrines definitely felt more homely... these days I feel like social media is more like rented-out apartments or cafes or co-working spaces you have to share w/ other people, and you can't ever really customize it exactly to your liking or have the privacy you want...

oh man, antidepressants have helped me so much the last while. It was a bit of an adjustment at first (they weirdly made me sweat a LOT the first 6 weeks) but my anxiety is a lot more manageable now and the suicidal thoughts aren't nearly as frequent. I'm glad my boyfriend pushed me to get on them.

I remember fan shrines! I think I even signed up on the listing on one once, though I don't remember if I ever put the little button in my profile.

My favorites were the ones for minor characters - I remember a few, for Sailor Cosmos from Sailor Moon and Souryuu and Kurikara from Yami no Matsuei. The good ones always had interesting 'about this character' pages and pictures (back when scans and screencaps were much harder to access) and they were just so nice to look at and go, oh, I like X too ♥

Fandom was so much more intimate back then and I really miss it. :(

Fan shrines are like love letters shared with other fans, but in a more personal way, with little possibility of heated arguments like in social media. And now I'm very nostalgic.

Wow, I remember Fandom Shrines. This really takes me back. On one hand, there's more instant forms of fandom appreciation available at the few clicks of a button, even on the more mainstream social media, but that also comes with its draw backs like more bullying because it's so accessible and I feel it has lost a little of the magic. Those shrines were special. It did feel like their own little worlds.

I'd recommend doing an Advent Calendar. I do them every year. I try to do something a little different each time, but it's a fun way to spend December.

Yeah, we've traded that kind of personalized output for instant gratification, I think! And I like instant gratification (of course) but I really miss what fandom used to be.

I'm thinking about doing one! I would like it to be a single fandom Advent Calendar but I can't guarantee that because I'm terrible at focusing on one fandom at a time, haha.

Just the other day I was thinking about the incredible Temple of Trunks and feeling really nostalgic about old school shrines. Sometimes I get so painfully nostalgic for the internet of yesteryear. Siiiggghhh.

I'm really glad you're enjoying Gravity Falls! It's so hard to pick a "favorite thing" about it, when the whole thing is ridiculously fun. (GRAPPLING HOOOOKKK!!!)

Oh gosh, that's a good shrine. ♥ I really miss early 2000 era fandom and I keep wanting to recreate it but I know that's impossible. ;;;

It's such a good show! I don't know why I haven't watched it before (I only knew through osmosis that the tumblr fandom is kind of a trash pile and I judge a great deal of media by its fandom, which is unfair probably!) but I'm so glad I finally got on board.

Mine too! It was actually her "Castles in the Sky" video which got me into Utena, which became(and still is) my absolutely favorite anime ever.

omg character shrines. ;; I remember back when Anipike was big since it was basically a collection of shrines in one place. A few I remember at the top of my head included Brock-O-Rama (it had a section where Brock was dressed up as various popular characters throughout media, like Nicolas Wolfwood from Trigun) a poignant Vash shrine called something along the lines of "edit the sad parts", and a silly shrine dedicated to Tasuki's horse from Fushigi Yuugi. XD

And as someone else mentioned, Temple of Trunks. There were even funny comics Meri made by photographing her DBZ action figures. :3
