Advent Calendar babble, also Gravity Falls! <3

This Yuri on Ice Advent Calendar is quickly turning into a Otayuri Advent Calendar and honestly I'm okay with that. But not just Otayuri; this is some of the shmoopiest, most romantic crap I've drawn in a long time. Imma have to draw some porn just to balance it out tbh. And I already know exactly what I'm going draw ohohoho

I'm a little confused about advent calendars though; is Christmas Day the day 1 on them? Because every advent calendar thing I've seen is 25 days long. If they start on December 1st (and all of them that I've seen do) then naturally, Christmas Day would be included. But I always thought that since it was a countdown, Christmas Day would be zero, not one? Clearly, I've never done advent calendars of any kind before, lmao. But since Christmas Day is going to be part of it, on that day I'll have multiple pieces drawn for multiple fandoms. If I can manage to draw/write that much, haha. It's a lot!

I've finished season 2, episode 13 of Gravity Falls and I have some thoughts about it and also shipping Okay so I'm going into this almost completely blind (all I really knew was that it's about twins and there's a triangle guy) so the big reveal of Grunkle Stan having a twin brother was actually pretty surprising, haha! Also I love some of the tongue in cheek comments and almost but not quite breaking the fourth wall, it's so great. I want to go live in Gravity Falls. ;3;

ALSO NICK OFFERMAN VOICES AGENT POWERS AND THAT MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD??? As soon as I heard his voice I was like "WAIT A MINUTE" aahhh what a good voice to hear in this awesome little cartoon. ♥

So I totally get why people want more of Bill Cipher, he's pretty entertaining, but I'm still pretty surprised that Billdip is such a popular ship. Although I guess I shouldn't be since uh fandom will find a way for shipping to happen. I mean I've read fics and I've enjoyed them but. What a weird ship! This fandom is also really likes callout posts and is rife with antis (even if you age Dipper up, which almost every single fic I've come across does) so I'm kinda glad I'm not feeling strongly about creating work for it.

GRANTED we'll see how the second half of season two goes, it might change my mind about everything.

Advent calendars generally countdown from day 1 to day 25 - Christmas day. =) You never had those Christmas calendars where behind each day is a piece of chocolate? It works the same way - start at 1! =D

I actually had to google this because my family never did a count up to 25, we always did a countdown to 1. I am shook and definitely will still be doing it in the reverse order. :o

EDIT: I just can't get over this discovery, lmao! When I was a kid we had a calendar thing we used every year and it definitely counted down and each night we would move the little snowflake a day closer to the 1 which represented Christmas. The other way makes sense in that it follows the calendar but! It's not a countdown! Why is my mind so blown over this?! XD

lol In fairness, I've never seen or heard of a calendar thing countdown from 25! I mean, it makes sense, I've just literally always seen the other kind. I thought that was the norm but apparently not. xD

How interesting! I never really thought of it as a countdown, because of the Advent Sundays being counted up from one to four, and the candles on the Advent wreath were lighted in that order as well, each Sunday one light more. (And of course, here in Germany we're only counting up to 24. *g*)

Oh see, we never really got into that much depth about it (and it was really just something that was done when I was very young that I barely remember), it mostly just. A countdown to presents, really. XD

For me it was mostly about the food. We didn't do presents when I was a child. But Advent meant baking cookies and getting a chocolate Advent calendar, and then there were the winter holidays to look forward to. *g*

Have fun with your advent calendar, it sounds like a good project :D I have this New Year's prompt table where I'm going to try and write a different ship for each day of the last two weeks of the year, and that seems like a lot of work to me already (though I also have to finish my FLPR stuff first, haha). Gravity Falls is a great show, and I liked reading weird Billdip fic where they kept him as an evil triangle. Kind of surprised it has so many antis given what's in the show, but I also don't get antis as whole, so idk. (Maybe it's just a rule that any animated show with a young enough target audience gets antis now? Though I heard Hannibal, of all shows, also had antis for about two seconds before the fandom laughed them out.)

I haven't any where he stays a triangle the whole time but I do prefer a slightly redeemed/broken down/softer but still pretty evil Bill(I'm currently reading Incalescence and it is A++). Fandom is really going through this whole purity phase where enjoying any kind of problematic or dark fic automatically makes you a predator, especially if you're over, like, 20 or something. lmao oh fandom.

I don't think I read that one, I'll check it out. Hearing about the purity brigade is what made me get a sock for a couple of messed-up fics just in case, even though I don't think I'd be targeted by them because I don't go on tumblr and I'm not exactly well-known, lol. Hopefully people will start growing out of it at some point and maybe we'll swing back to 'tag your fic appropriately but YKINMK and that's okay'.

About half of the advent calendars we've had over the years included the 25th and half didn't. The ones that give treats generally do include the 25th. The ones that just reveal pretty pictures generally don't. Those tend to have double doors on the 24th.

I think it might be that the ones I remember from childhood were usually European (German, I think). My mother used to scour stores for them in the 1970s. The ones we've had for Cordelia have all been US produced.

Yeah, it seems like there's a bit more variety to advent calendars than I initially thought. Although I guess I should have done a bit of research before diving into this, haha.

We only really had one advent calendar thing and it was basically a countdown! I've never had anything that gave out presents or anything like that.

I have an advent calendar collection--over 50! Most of them go from 1 to 24, with a few including 25. But I've never seen one going the other way and counting down to 1. One of them starts on the 6th, instead of the 1st, because that's St. Nicholas day. I am looking forward to your Yuuri on Ice advent countdown!

Well, the chocolate-filled advent calendars count up to 25 and usually have a bigger piece for Xmas. So I'd always think to include the 25th as 'and here is the main event'!
